The unspeakably brilliant Caroline Mabey and her cartoon coffee pot sidekick, Kip, are back in Edinburgh for the third time to take the ultimate challenge in this mind bending, world record–breaking attempt to be quiet. You simply won’t believe your ears. This year’s David Blaine.

“Charmingly bonkers” (Chortle) Caroline Mabey is a talented stand-up comedian, compere, character comic and writer. She is also an accomplished graphic artist and animator and has created various animated characters with whom she interacts in her madcap Edinburgh shows. Caroline’s daft and playful persona is underpinned by her deceptively clever and dark gags. Recently she cemented her animation credentials by being invited to host the prestigious British Animation Awards. Her recent TV credits include The One Show (BBC1), The Culture Show, (BBC2) and Funny Business (BBC2).

“The slightly deranged offspring of a menage a trois between Vic Reeves, Harry Hill and Floella Benjamin” – Bruce Dessau, Evening Standard

“Inspired hilarity…oddball genius from an always intriguing performer” Chortle

“Real comedy bite…silly, poignant and twisted gaggery” The Scotsman

“Truly scrumptious… kooky, quirky and delicious” Time Out

“Lo-fi comedy with balls… will endure in the memory long after you’ve forgotten every word from the big-name stand-ups.” Steve Bennett, Chortle

After a triumphant run at the Brighton Fringe earlier in the year – The Sunday Times critics’ choice of the weekend – “superlative” sketch group The Dog-Eared Collective bring their brand new show, You’re Better Than This to the Edinburgh Fringe. This is the sketch group of the fringe this year.

Directed by Alan Freestone, (Greedy (Edinburgh, London, New York), Lucy Porter and Des Clarke) You’re Better Than This is a riotous sketch fest showcasing the groups’ quirky style of combining ingenious prop comedy with British eccentricity. Joyously unpredictable and in places a touch surreal, audiences are invited to fly on the cape tails of a Diddy-Man Vigilante, cue up for Snooker: The Musical and sniff out a Samurai’s secret.

The Dog-Eared Collective’s star is firmly in the ascendency having received a clutch of great reviews recently at the Brighton Fringe for this show as well as being chosen to feature in Citroen’s sponsorship advertising for the festival. The company have performed across the UK alongside the likes of Idiots of Ants and The Penny Dreadfuls, as well as hosting The Doghouse – a monthly comedy night where headliners included Paul Foot and Lloyd Langford.

“This critics’ choice of the weekend? The superlative Dog-Eared Collective, who presented a hilarious hour of fast paced comedy. Sketch after sketch had the audience in giggles and guffaws that will surely bring them further success at Edinburgh” The Sunday Times

“Firmly on the critics’ radar. Definitely one to watch” Metro

“The Dog-Eared Collective leaves no pun unspoken, no sight gag unseen, no entendre left singular in its take-no-prisoners campaign for laughs… More laughs than any other three Fringe shows put together” Gerald Berkowitz, The Stage

“Carefully crafted silliness….sublimely surreal” **** Chortle

“I’ll be recommending it to everyone I know” ***** Three Weeks

“The Dog-Eared Collective are a refreshing change of pace in modern British comedy. They have the downright gutsy balls not seen since Jam, the silliness of Bottom and the honest comedy ride that was Smack the Pony” **** Leeds Guide

You probably haven’t heard of DeAnne Smith yet. You will.

After a hugely successful season in Australia where she was nominated for the Barry Award (MICF) this year, Award Winning Canadian/American comic DeAnne Smith is making her Edinburgh debut with her new stand up show.

With her trademark wit and irreverence, and a few ukulele tunes, this show sees “nerdy but dirty” DeAnne tackle topics such as anxiety, ignorance, lesbian relationships, and mortality. She also leaves room in her show for plenty of banter, showcasing her quick wit and formidable improv skills with the freeform segment “5 1/2 Minutes of Bonus Hilarity.” DeAnne has been voted one of Montreal’s top three comedians by the Montreal Mirror readers for the last four years.

DeAnne will be coming to Edinburgh directly from the Just for Laughs Festival where she will appear in Chicago and Montreal as well as appearing on HBO’s Funny As Hell and is looking forward to seeing how discerning Edinburgh punters will receive her quirky, cerebral brand of stand-up comedy at the notoriously cut-throat Fringe. DeAnne has just been nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award.

If you do indeed recognise Smith, it may be thanks to her brief appearance on NBC’s Last Comic Standing in 2007.

After another hugely successful run in Edinburgh last year Matt Green is back with his fourth solo stand- up show, Too Much Information. Already nominated for Best New Show at The Leicester Comedy Festival earlier this year, this show is sure to be a hit.

Overwhelmed by life? Constantly distracted? Can’t finish a….oooh what’s that? In this fast–moving world of distractions and diversions, how can we stay focused on what’s important? Were things simpler in the past or were people just stupider? Does studying Home Economics for a term at the age of 13 give Matt enough knowledge to understand the global financial crisis? And if not, should that stop him from commenting on it anyway? Why are we obsessed with gossip? And have you seen what she’s wearing?

This show has all the answers. As long as you ask very specific questions. Featuring lots of jokes, a smidgen of politics and absolutely no pictures of kittens!

Matt Green’s career continues apace, as well as consistently writing new material for new solo shows Matt has been seen on Comedy Cuts, Comedy Showcase, Comedy Lab and other shows without the word comedy in the title including Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps and the TV Book Club.
Political comic, Kate Smurthwaite is back at the fringe with her new show The News at Kate 2011 all about this year’s news and views and all the political shenanigans she has been involved in this year. So left wing it hurts, political campaigner, ardent feminist and hard core do-gooder, Kate casts her satirical eye over all things political and gives her brilliant, witty, hilarious take on them, including her on-going fallings out with Daily Mail writer Angela Epstein and Conservative MP Nadine Dorries and her leading of the Nope Pope march last year protesting the Pope’s state visit.

Kate is the MC at Soho Comedy Club and gigs all over the UK and internationally, particularly in Scandinavia having supported Sweden’s favourite comic Magnus Betner, and also in America in LA and NY, France, Italy, Switzerland, Uganda and the Canary Islands. As well as performing stand-up, Kate is a regular Radio and TV political commentator. More than 100 appearances on BBC Radio Five Live (Stephen Nolan show, Richard Bacon show, Tony Livesey show, more than 20 appearances on BBC Radio Two’s Jeremy Vine show, four appearances on Sky Travel’s Where In The World panel show, ten appearances on BBC Breakfast News on BBC One, six appearances on BBC One’s The Big Questions. Kate is a guest presenter on Leith FM throughout the festival.

Kate is the lead writer on critically acclaimed live political comedy show The Comedy Manifesto which is on every afternoon during the fringe, (15.40 – 16.40 3rd – 29th, not 16th, Voodoo Rooms) where she will also be hosting. She also writes the Cruella-blog website www.cruellablog.blogspot.com

Last year Kate hit the headlines by getting onto the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square by “borrowing” someone’s identity, making her the world’s first living art forgery.

Kate has just completed a tour of the UK as support act for Shazia Mirza and is on the board of The Edinburgh Fringe Society.

“A power house of observational wit” The Spectator

“There is very little for me to write here. Honestly. Nothing at all. It really was that good.” ????? Broadway Baby

“A brilliant comedian” ?????ScotsGay

“Comedy that cuts through the crap” ????Three Weeks

“Charming, witty and with just a hint of a wicked glint in her eye, Kate Smurthwaite’s exuberant and affable personality is a little reminiscent of an excitable, slightly irresponsible head girl luring impressionable fourth formers into some illicit fun. You’d have to be made of granite not to warm to her” ????The National Student

After the huge success of his first two shows, My Bass and Other Animals and Breakfast of Idiots, Guy Pratt, legendary bassist to the world’s superist of starriest musician’s, is back with part three of his life on the road Wake Up Call.

It’s 4am. The alarm is set for 5. You’re in Belgrade – or possibly Buenos Aires. All hotel rooms look the same. There’s a noise coming from the bathroom and only a miniature of Baileys left in the mini bar. No worries you’ll sleep on the plane. You hope to hell it’s a travel day and that pile of ashes in the corner isn’t your passport.

Welcome to an average Wednesday in the life of a touring musician. Guy Pratt’s Wake-up Call is the next instalment of the bizarre, poignant and often hilarious life of a bassist told by a natural raconteur. The show is full of funny and frankly libellous tales from the mini bar, the absurdities of life on the road for a touring musician and the madness that comes with breathing the rarefied air of the superstar.

You’ll laugh. You’ll cry, if you’re a musician you’ll probably sue.

Guy has had an extensive career playing bass for all our favourite rock legends including Pink Floyd, Roxy Music, Madonna, Michael Jackson and David Gilmour. A book of My Bass and Other Animals was published recently, littered with supreme first hand backstage knowledge. Guy has also won a Grammy and been nominated for two Ivor Novello awards.

“An easy raconteurship of the kind that no doubt goes down a storm in backstage dressing rooms…a truly entertaining show” The Scotsman, Edinburgh 2010.

“A natural raconteur with a droll turn of phrase” The Guardian

“What tales he has to tell” The Independent

“An hour of rip roaring anecdotes” The List

“He regaled the audience with hilariously indiscreet anecdotes about the stars he’s worked with” Toby Young, The Spectator

“Pratt is pretty bloody hilarious.” The Irish Times

“Limos, Lear jets and transit vans, it’s all funny with Guy… well limos and Lear jets anyway.” Johnny Marr

Thank God. Glenn Wool is back at the fringe.

Picture this. The year is 2008. A delighted Wool has been nominated for the Chortle ‘Best Headliner’ award along with Jim Jefferies, Michael McIntyre, and Rhod Gilbert. Drunkenly crawling off a flight from Shanghai, he goes directly to the ceremony and loses…. to Michael McIntyre.

After spending all night at the bar and vomiting on the bar, the floor, the walls and the stairs of the beautiful function space, Glenn decides he’s had enough. Literally and spiritually he goes home.

Back in North America he stops drinking and starts again, then stops again, ad nauseum. Who knows where Glenn would be if he’d stayed in the UK with those other fairly successful chaps from that nominee list? Impossible to know. However, what we do know is where he’s been after that. For the last three years Glenn has been travelling the world from Ireland to Australia, via India, NZ, Singapore, HK, China, Holland, Dubai, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, America, Canada, Indonesia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Malaysia, cracking jokes, getting in scrapes with Indonesian customs officers, watching beavers, seeing ufos in Manhattan, visiting the Creation Museum in Kentucky and everything in between.

A pioneer of the world circuit and with no fixed abode, this show will let you peep through the window into a life jam packed with experiences, distilled to perfection and poured into a laughter packed hour of straight up honest stand up comedy.

“Wool is extraordinarily funny – side-splittingly, jaw-hurtingly funny” Time Out, Sydney

“Effortlessly funny with an affability other comics can only dream of. You have to go and see Glenn Wool” Brian Logan The Guardian UK

“There’s so much of Glenn’s show to love and with a central theme, everything felt cohesive and sparkling. Do yourself a favour and book in to see Glenn now” TVNZ, New Zealand

“Feisty, opinionated and very entertaining” Time Out, Mumbai

“Why aren’t you in a queue somewhere buying a ticket?” Kate Copstick, The Scotsman UK

After huge success at home, Award Winning Australian comedy duo Fear of a Brown Planet are making their much anticipated Edinburgh fringe debut.

Fear of a Brown Planet sees Aamer Rahman and Nazeem Hussain tackle the topics of immigration, race relations and the War on Terror in their trademark confrontational style, head on.

Not your average stand-up comedians, Fear of a Brown Planet, promises to bring audiences a distinct brand of thought-provoking political comedy, designed to entertain and aggravate in equal measures. Their anarchic take on politics and race, at home and abroad, both reflects on, and celebrates, the differences of growing up brown in white Australia whilst boldly tackling the delicate topic of Islam.

Leave your prejudice at the door.

“Intensely amusing political stuff, from a very different point of view” The Sunday Telegraph

“Just go see it – it’s extraordinary” The Age

“Deliciously barbed comedy that cuts close to the bone” The Age, 2010

“This is bold comedy with an unbelievably powerful message, and totally unmissable” Beat Magazine 2010

• 8th – 27th AUGUST 2011 (not 14th or 21st)

Following on from the huge success of 89 minutes to save the NHS, Dr Phil is back in Edinburgh with his Rude Health Show.

Dr Phil has escaped from his surgery again to answer all those awkward ‘down below’ and ‘up above’ questions with a huge comic injection. Learn to pleasure yourself safely and save the NHS all at once with Private Eye’s medical correspondent, practicing GP and the only comedian to have played a Public Inquiry. A unique mix of the anatomical and the political.

Most of us are hard-wired to seek pleasure, but no health system in the world can cope with the tsunami of accident-prone, drug-addled, sex-obsessed, lard-buckets headed its way. Yet very little medical research has been done into pleasure. Why do children put things in their upper holes and adults in their lower holes? Is it safe to fall asleep with a penis enlarger on? Can anyone put a condom on with less than three hands? Should dogs be prescribed on the NHS? And what should you do if someone dies on you during sex? If you want to know how to pleasure yourself without ending up in casualty, Dr Phil has all the answers. And if he doesn’t he’ll do what all doctors do, make something up.

Dr Phil made his name as one half of the incredibly successful and award winning Struck Off and Die. He went on to perform his own solo shows 28 Minutes to save the NHS and the critically acclaimed 89 minutes to save the NHS which toured over sixty theatres around the UK has appeared regularly on Have I Got News For You, Trust Me I’m a Doctor, Countdown, News Quiz, The One Show and The Now Show.

Phil is also the Co-writer of Polyoaks, a timely medical satire based in the murky and confusing world of the coalition’s NHS reforms. The sitcom follows the lives of three GP’s running a traditional surgery but facing the prospect of becoming a super surgery, starring Nigel Planer, Celia Imrie, Tony Gardner and David Westhead for Radio 4.

He still works part time as a GP, presents The Music Group for Radio 4 and is the author of three best-selling books: Medicine Balls (an NHS satire), Trust Me I’m Still a Doctor (20 years of whistle-blowing in Private Eye) and Sex, Sleep or Scrabble? (a pleasure manual). With Tony Gardner, he won a Writer’s Guild Comedy Award and a Silver Sony Award for Struck Off and Die. DVDs of Dr Phil’s Rude Health Show and Confessions of a Doctor were released in 2010.

Dr Phil is the patron of the Herpes Viruses Association – free swabs and consultations during the show.

“Tough on doctors, politicians and patients. And he’s funny” The Daily Telegraph

“Essential Fringe viewing. Assured, blackly funny and profane” ****The List

“Effortlessly suave, delightfully vulgar. You’ll never see a doctor in quite the same way again ***** The Scotsman

“One of the most entertainingly subversive people on the planet.” Guardian”
