PRESS RELEASE

MICKY FLANAGAN – WHAT CHANCE CHANGE?
DEBUT UK TOUR - 2009
IF.COMEDY AWARD NOMINEE

One of the finest comics in the UK, and possibly the oldest newcomer nominee ever, Micky Flanagan brings all his experiences to bear in his brilliant show What Chance Change ?   A sell-out hit at the Edinburgh Festival 07, this is the first time Micky has taken the show on the road and will be the last chance people will get to see it.

"Micky's take on his working-class East End background is side-splitting...
a rising star "
- Stephen Armstrong, The Sunday Times

What Chance Change? is the story of Micky's life and the journey he's taken from the mean streets of the East End to the leafy lanes of East Dulwich.  It's 1980: Micky feels trapped and angry, working as a porter in Billingsgate fish market, living in the East End. It's now 2009: Micky is slightly upset at the cost of a latte during a recession whilst working as a stand-up comic and living in the pretentious London suburbs.  Over the years he's gone from Sunblest to Panini, tabloids to broadsheets, the street party to the dinner party. Travel, countless jobs, a belated higher education, critical acclaim and women have all played their part… but has he really changed?

"Astonishingly good - a cockney extraordinaire and cracking stand- up."
Malcolm Hay, Time Out

A professional stand-up since 1997, Micky Flanagan draws on his East End background as he ruthlessly deconstructs the Cockney myth with razor-sharp observational wit.  He tells a comic tale of a working class upbringing, where alphabetti spaghetti is a luxury and a bottle of Blue Nun the height of sophistication.

“Highlight of the night was Micky Flanagan… a class act." – Steve Bennett, Chortle

Since the success of Edinburgh Micky has gone on to record half hour specials for Paramount TV and BBC Radio 4 which was chosen for Pick of the Week.   His unique brand of intelligent humour appeals to men and women equally, as he bemoans the lot of modern man in pursuit of the perfect idle day, and celebrates being turned away from a night club because his feet are killing him!

"The charming Micky Flanagan is very confident and enigmatic, he uses pace and silence with skill and has a strong physicality." - The Stage
