Tom Allen, Winner of the coveted So You Think You’re Funny in Edinburgh and the BBC New Comedy gong in the same year is making a welcome return to Edinburgh with his second solo show, A Voyage Around My Mother.
Tom grew up in London but he wants to know where he is from so he goes on a research trip to Ireland...and so do his parents. This show is packed with serenely hilarious tales of family adventures as he discovers his true roots. A tale follows full of family history, shocks and scandals, personal identity and his Mum.
The show will be full of Tom’s trademark style, always poised and immaculately turned out, and his elegant brand of storytelling, which is whimsical, sharp and intelligent. Since winning the awards, Tom has been very busy. He has performed at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal as well as gigs in New York and Manchester’s Queer Up North festival.
Tom is a regular TV and radio contributor having recently been seen in the Frankie Howerd biopic, starring David Walliams Rather You Than Me (BBC) Law of The Playground (Channel 4) and Sensitive Skin (BBC2). Tom continues his long term collaboration with writer/director John Hoggarth and 2008 sees a second series of their celebrated radio show The Correspondent for BBC Radio 4. In addition Tom plays Pip in the ongoing radio spoof saga Bleak Expectations with Anthony Head and Richard Johnson and recorded The Wooden Overcoat with Julia Davies and David Tennant at the end of last year both for BBC Radio 4 and has recently recorded a Funny Cut for E4 and takes a witty look at male identity, lad culture and where he fits in.
