PRESS RELEASE

RBM presents

MATT GREEN in GROW UP GREEN
EDINBURGH FRINGE FESTIVAL 2008
PLEASANCE 10 DOME
7pm (Ends 8pm)
30th July – 24th AUGUST 2008 (not 11th)

Award winning comedian Matt Green is making his Edinburgh fringe solo debut at the Pleasance this year with his show Grow Up Green.

In this first solo show, Matt considers growing up, feeling young and trying to do both at once.  Despite being almost 30, Matt still looks about twelve and wonders if we all get treated like children or is that just him? Are kids these days too grown up or are we all just grown up kids? Some people argue that we’re living in an infantilised culture: from ridiculous adverts and warnings to patronising religious and political leaders. And every weekend the streets are filled with childish behaviour fuelled by the ultimate infantilising tool: booze!

With all this in mind, Matt tells a whole load of jokes and stories about childhood, childishness and growing up. These range from tales of family games that spin out of control, being bullied on Facebook and being baffled by film warnings, to accounts of weird hospital visits and embarrassing revelations. It’s an hour of fun that’ll make you laugh, think and cry. But mainly laugh. And probably not cry. Much.

Matt was placed second in The Hackney Empire New Act of the Year in 2005. He is the winner of the Hairline Award for the show The Big Briefcase, a two man comedy show he wrote and performed with Richard Thomson.  In Edinburgh Matt was part of The Comedy Zone at the Fringe in 2005 and in 2006 was in The Ed Weeks Variety at the Pleasance directed by Perrier nominee Ben Willbond.  He has performed his stand-up all over London and the UK, including the Lyric Hammersmith alongside Stephen Merchant, Richard Herring and Chris Addison.

Matt has numerous TV and Radio credits to his name.  He most recently filmed a performance for Comedy Cuts (ITV) which will be shown during the Autumn, and as an actor has recently had parts in Casualty (BBC1), Arcadia(pilot for BBC3), Other People  (Channel 4) Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place (Channel 4) and Extras (BBC). On Radio until recently he could be heard on BBC Radio 4 as Constable Twitten in The Casebook of Inspector Steine, written by Lynne Truss.

Grow Up Green is directed by Owen Powell, who is a two-time Perrier Newcomer nominee for directing the Cambridge Footlights show Far Too Happy in 2001 and Alex Horne's Making Fish Laugh in 2003. He has also directed two shows by Colin and Fergus (including their Writer's Guild Award winning debut show), and worked with Mark Watson on all of his "long shows" in Edinburgh.
