PRESS RELEASE
AN EVENING WITH JO BRAND
NATIONAL TOUR
SPRING 2008
Jo Brand, one of Britain’s best loved, highly respected comediennes, is about to embark on a national tour. In Jo’s safe hands you are guaranteed a hilarious evening of her sharp, perceptive, quick witted humour.
The tour kicks off on 21st April in Maidstone at the Hazlitt Theatre and culminates in Epsom at The Playhouse on 15th June. Jo will be supported by Andy Robinson.
Jo is widely recognised for her numerous live shows and television appearances. More recently, she has received great critical acclaim for her “farcical, witty and wise” (The Times) novels Sorting Out Billy and It's different for Girls which explores the brittle nature of teenage friendship.
“Jo is the best female comic in Britain” The Mirror
“The laughter never stopped the whole evening... at the finale, the audience would not let Jo leave the stage and cried for more. In true pop star fashion she resumed her position from behind the curtain and delivered a series of one-liners while the audience clapped and cheered.” The Times
“Four years off the road and it's as if she's never been away... absence and recent motherhood hasn’t blunted her talent for biting humour... Her self-depreciating, convoluted gag about 'no meaning yes' and why men and women interpret the phrase differently... is the most clever and subtle example of public education masquerading as savvy political humour that I've ever heard. Brilliant.” The Observer Review
“Her act contains more swearing and sexual references than the entire work of Tarantino and Cronenberg put together... But like a ravenous crowd in front of a table full of cream cakes, they simply scoffed the lot. The audience was so well tuned to Brand's particular brand of humour that the very mention of the word 'chocolate' early on was greeted with whoops of delight.” The Independent
