PRESS RELEASE
RBM presents
GUY PRATT in MY BASS AND OTHER ANIMALS
NATIONAL TOUR
MAY - JULY 2007
“A natural raconteur with a droll turn of phrase” The Guardian
If you missed Guy on tour last spring, here is a rare chance for you to witness the brilliance and hilarity of legendary bassist Guy Pratt. After his phenomenal critical success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Guy brings his very personal take on life on the road and in the studio to a town near you this summer. Last summer Guy completed a three-month European tour with David Gilmour, playing on Gilmour’s new album and has also been recently on tour with Bryan Ferry as well as on TV’s 100 Singles You Hate to Love.
Guy’s book, titled My Bass and Other Animals, (Orion Publishing) which chronicles his life as a rock and roll bassist is due to be released in May. Littered with supreme first hand backstage knowledge of all our favourite rock legends, as well as a valuable insight in to how to get started in the hedonistic business of Rock and Roll, and the rocky road to success, My Bass and Other Animals, is at times a hilarious, revealing, and awe inspiring read.
"An hour of rip-roaring anecdotes" **** The List
On tour join him on an often raucous, always hilarious journey from teenage bedroom to world-class stadium as, armed with only his Bass Guitar, he relates his story of life at the epicenter of the mayhem that we, the record buying public, know fondly as the Music Industry. Set mainly during the madness of the 1980’s Guy recounts extraordinary tales of life on the road – and off the wall - with some of the giants of Music including Pink Floyd, Madonna and Michael Jackson.
"What tales he has to tell." **** The Independent
Guy’s career in music took off when, at the tender age of 19, he was asked to join the then massive in Australia band Icehouse for a world tour, part of which included supporting David Bowie on the legendary “Serious Moonlight” tour of 1983. This led to him being asked to perform with Robert Palmer, Bryan Ferry, Womack & Womack, and even being in The Smiths for a week, to name but a few, before being thrust into the global premier league of bassists when David Gilmour asked him to play for Pink Floyd. Guy has also won a Grammy and been nominated for 2 Ivor Novello Awards.
“He regaled the audience with hilariously indiscreet anecdotes about the stars he’s worked with” Toby Young, The Spectator
“Pratt is pretty bloody hilarious.” The Irish Times
“Limos, Lear jets and transit vans, it’s all funny with Guy… well limos and Lear jets anyway.” Johnny Marr
"A fascinating glimpse behind the rock 'n' roll curtain." **** Fest
