PRESS RELEASE
RBM presents
SUE PERKINS NATIONAL TOUR
Feb - May 2006
In the autumn of 1988, Sue Perkins got onto a stage to perform her first ever stand up routine. She was interrupted, mid flow, by a strange and hunched figure, dressed in a cerise New Romantic boiler suit. This person turned out to be a girl called Mel. For the next seventeen years the pair were best known as Mel & Sue.
Now in her first one woman show, Sue will finally finish what she started that night. Except with different jokes. Obviously .
Sue invites you to take a tour round Britain's first online Romany community, see the prototype of the Pentagon's Gay Bomb and find out why wearing spectacles is simply not enough in the fight to become Spectacle Wearer of the Year. Plus, why you should always keep a badger in the fridge, in her first solo stand up show.
"That rare thing, truly observational comedy, in a brilliant stand-up debut from one half of Mel and Sue" The Sunday Telegraph
As Mel and Sue, the duo were short listed for the Daily Express Best Newcomers Award at the Edinburgh festival in 1993 and soon started writing for French and Saunders, before being picked up to front their own daytime show, Light Lunch for Channel 4. This was nominated for two RTS awards, and ran for two years. Subsequently, they have appeared in Room 101, Celebrity Weakest Link, Stars in Their Eyes to name but a few.
"It's wry, witty inventive and highly entertaining. You'd imagine she's been at it since the dawn of time" Time Out
Sue has appeared, solo, in Have I Got News, Good Evening Rockall (2 series for BBC3), Movie Babylon (2 series for SkyTV); has written additional material for Ab Fab, and appears regularly on radio shows such as It's Been A Bad Week (Radio2) and Just A Minute (R4). She also presents the 99p Challenge, which has just received a Silver Sony Award for Comedy.
"This show is an out-and-out success. laugh out loud funny" **** ScotsGay
